Growing Through The Waiting

Introduction: The Weight And Wonder Of Waiting

We all know how praying to God for something whether it be healing, provision, restoration, etc and hearing nothing can feel. Have you ever felt like you were doing everything right, yet God still had you on pause? Waiting seasons are not void of purpose, they are often where God does His deepest work in us. The aim of this blog is meant to help us to explore growing spiritually, emotionally, and faithfully during seasons of waiting.

II. What It Means To “Wait On The Lord”?

Biblical Context: Waiting in the Bible is often tied to expectation, trust, and hope- not passivity. Isaiah 40:31 doesn’t suggest idleness but rather active trust- “they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” Waiting often includes tension: between promise and fulfillment, prayer and response, faith and uncertainty. Waiting on God isn’t about doing nothing- it’s about doing the right things while believing He’s doing the unseen.

III. Biblical Examples Of Growth In Waiting

Some examples of growth in waiting in the Bible are Joseph son of Jacob. Thirteen years from pit to palace- God used that time to shape his character for leadership (Genesis 37-50). Hannah prayed pleaded that God would give her a son. Her prayers and tears led to the birth of the prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 1). David was anointed as King as a boy but waited years before stepping into the role (1 Samuel 16). His Psalms reflect growth and intimacy with God. Even Jesus waited until the appointed time to begin His ministry (Luke 2:49 & John 2:4). Key takeaway: The Bible shows us that waiting is often the breeding ground for purpose.

IV. What God Develops In Us While We Wait

Patience- Not just tolerance, but enduring with a peaceful heart. Waiting teaches us that slow down & trust God’s rhythm.

  1. Faith- Hebrews 11:1 reminds us that faith is about trusting the unseen. Waiting exercises and strengthens our faith muscles.

  2. Humility- Waiting strips us of control. It reminds us that we’re not God, and that’s a good thing.

  3. Dependence- Instead of relying on our strength or timeline, we learn to lean on God’s wisdom and timing.

  4. Character Refinement- God often uses waiting to burn away selfish ambition, pride, or misplaced identity.

“God is not just preparing the blessing for you- He’s preparing you for the blessing.”

V. When The Wait Feels Like Silence

Waiting on God to answer your prayer and hearing no response can be frustrating and painful. However, God’s silence is not rejection. The Israelites were in bondage for 400 years before God sent Moses to deliver them out of Egypt. Even in silence, God is still speaking- through His Word, through creation, and through inner peace and conviction. Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose. All things also includes the waiting.

V. How To Grow Through Your Waiting Season

  1. Stay in the Word- Let the scriptures anchor your soul. Create a daily routine of reading and meditating on God’s promises.

  2. Pray Honestly- Pour out your heart to God like David in the Psalms. Waiting is not a time to fake your faith- it’s a time to deepen it.

  3. Serve While You Wait- Don’t sit on your gifts. Even in delay, God can still use you.

  4. Worship Your Way Through- Worship isn’t just for celebration- it’s for cultivation. It shifts your perspective while you wait.

  5. Journal The Journey- Record lessons, confirmations, and scriptures that speak to you. You’ll look back and see how much you’ve grown.

VII. Testimony Corner: From Waiting To Witness

In Luke chapter 8:43-48 there was a woman who had an issue of blood for 12 years who was waiting to be healed. After using all her money on physicians she was still not healed. Until the day she heard of the Messiah being in the town, she pushed her way through the crowd to be healed. She simply believed that if she touched the hem of His garment she would be made well. And she was. After 12 years of bleeding she was instantly made whole.

VIII. Closing Encouragement: Your Wait Is Not in Vain

God sees, God knows, and God is working—even when it doesn’t feel like it. Delay is not denial. Stay the course and let God do His perfect work in you during the wait. Lamentations 3:25 – “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” Psalm 27:14- Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!
